Backyard dwellers from Delft on the Cape Flats say they will not move unless they are relocated to proper houses.
They are among more than 1 000 families who illegally occupied the N-2 Gateway housing units in December last year. Mayoral committee member for housing in the City of Cape Town, Dan Plato yesterday indicated that they would start relocating at least 100 families today.
Plato said the relocation process would be done in phases. This morning the dwellers, currently living in tents and those squatting on the pavement along Symphony way, were going on with their day-to-day lives.
