May 07, 2008, 16:30
South Africa has offered assistance to Myanmar following last weekend's cyclone that killed more than 20 000 thousand and left a million people homeless.
Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ronnie Mamoepa says: "South Africa stands ready to assist, within its limited resources, the people of Myanmar in mitigating the effects of that disaster."
He said any assistance would be co-ordinated by the National Disaster Response Unit under the leadership of Provincial and Local Affairs Minister Sydney Mufamadi. He also relayed the country's condolences to the people of Myanmar. -Sapa
