Gale force winds in Betty's Bay in the Western Cape are still creating havoc by further damaging residential homes in the town. However, the raging veld fires that have gutted several houses are under control. The storm has caused the closure of the R 43 road between Gansbaai and Hawston.
Betty’s Bay resident, Richard Joone says: “Its very much under control although the wind is still gale force and very strong and also creating a lot of damage to other houses”.
Earlier, it was reported that five houses were burnt down in Betty's Bay and one in Hawston by a raging veld fire fanned by the strong winds in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.
