Holiday makers flock to Durban

While the national economy might be incurring heavy financial losses as employees take an extended holiday, to enjoy the double long weekend, KwaZulu-Natal Tourism authorities are buoyed by the increase in bookings. The province expects a total economic impact of a billion rand, over the next couple of days.

The Drakensberg and the Midlands are also almost at full capacity. Officials say the influx may even equate that of the Easter weekend, as tourists turn the period into a nine-day holiday.

The KZN coastline will be a hive of activity with many events planned for the long weekend. The other draw card is the first sardines of the season have also been spotted off the Wild Coast.
