Cape Town taxi rank re-opens

The Mitchell's Plain taxi rank has been re-opened

Police are keeping an eye on the rank to maintain law and order

April 04, 2008, 08:00

The Mitchell's Plain taxi rank at the Mitchell's Plain Town Centre has been re-opened to commuters this morning. The rank was closed yesterday after fighting broke out between the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association and the Mitchell's Plain Taxi Association over the lucrative Delft taxi route.

Police spokesperson Andrč Traut says two men were injured when they were hit in the face with bricks. "The rank is currently open and police are keeping an eye to maintain law and order today.

"We are investigating two charges of public violence following the arrest of two men in their 20s. Two charges of malicious damage to property are also being investigated."
