The funeral arrangements for chairperson of the ANC caucus in Parliament, Ncumisa Kondlo, have still not been finalised. The 49-year-old, who was also the national deputy chairperson of the South African Communist Partym (SACP) passed away at an East London hospital yesterday.
Kondlo was chosen to lead caucus following her ascension to the powerful National Working Committee of the ANC. SACP Secretary-General Blade Nzimande says her death will leave a huge gap in South African politics.
Kondlo's mother-in-law, Elizabeth Mtwazi, has expressed shock at the news of her passing away. She says although she knew that Kondlo was ill, she had hoped that she would recover.
Kondlo was married to the late Thobile Mtwazi, who was a bodyguard of former president Nelson Mandela.
