Mbeki was mandated by SADC to mediate in the Zimbabwe crisis

Political analysts have thrown their weight behind calls for President Thabo Mbeki to respond to corruption allegations levelled against him.
It's been reported that the ANC’s Tokyo Sexwale has called on Mbeki to explain his involvement in the controversial multi-billion-rand arms deal. Sexwale reportedly told an ANC NEC meeting last Friday - that Mbeki should respond to a German investigation, which allegedly implicates him in the arms deal.
Independent analyst Frederick van Zyl Slabbert says Mbeki needs to take the country in his confidence - and explain himself. “He can say I know nothing about it, I have got nothing to with it, and then disprove the allegations and the hints, on the other hand I think it's incumbent on those who have the information to come clean, and say this is the proof of what we're saying.”
He says it’s an intolerable situation to be in, where the outgoing president is under a cloud, and the incoming possible president is also under a cloud.
