A woman was seriously injured in a crash at the Rivonia offramp of the N1 highway, emergency services said on Saturday.
ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics found a silver vehicle smashed in the middle of the highway at 12.10am. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was rushed to a local hospital in a serious but stable condition. Vermmaak said: "It is unclear whether the woman was thrown from her vehicle during the crash or how she got to the side of the road."
Meanwhile 16 people were injured when their taxi collided with a bakkie near Roodepoort yesterday. Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the accident happened at the intersection of Main Reef Road and Shaft Street.
"Injured people were scattered next to the taxi. The two men who were trapped in the bakkie were rushed to hospital in a stable condition,” he said.
In a separate incident, the driver of a bakkie in KwaZulu-Natal lost control of his vehicle on the wet road killing one person, ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said. People sitting in the bakkie's loading bin were thrown out of the vehicle over a barrier and fence into a private property, said Banks. The seven injured were treated on scene for minor injuries, he said. - Sapa
