Eskom shuts down Mpumalanga unit

Eskom's Duvha Power Station

Duvha is world's first power station retrofitted with pulse jet fabric filter plants

March 12, 2008, 11:15

Eskom has shut down one unit at its Duvha power plant, east of Witbank in Mpumalanga. The power utility says this was due to a breakdown of a conveyor belt used to move coal into the plant.

According to power industry sources, two units were shut there because there was insufficient coal in stocks of the right quality to run all the units. However, Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger says there was a mechanical problem with the conveyor and it will be fixed shortly.

He said that there is sufficient coal at the plant.
