Truck collision in Cape kills three

March 06, 2008, 12:15

Three people were killed when two trucks collided at the Kromme Rhee turn-off on the road to Stellenbosch near Cape Town.

The impact of the collision caused one vehicle to land on top of the other. The three occupants of the two vehicles died at the scene.

Meanwhile hundreds of people have converged at Curries Fountain in Durban for a provincial day of prayer following the deaths of 31 people on KwaZulu-Natal roads last weekend.

Arrive Alive spokesperson, Ntao Letebele, says they will impose very strict road safety measures ahead of the Easter weekend. He says the drive will focus specifically on taxis and buses, and that more police will be deployed at road blocks.

The province's Premier Sbu Ndebele announced that today will be observed as a day of mourning.
