The Mpumalanga Roads and Transport Department says it's too soon launch an investigation into the cause of the bus accident which took place in Nelspruit this morning.
Eleven people were killed and more than 60 others critically injured. The bus was travelling from White River to Nelspruit when it went out of control. Roads and Transport spokesperson, David Nkambule says the death toll could rise given the critical situation of those who where injured in the accident.
The Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga could not accommodate the more than 60 injured people who were injured. Hospital management says the institution has 298 beds and only nine were available. They say that the injured people had to be transferred to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile BUSCOR, the company that owns the bus has committed itself to offering assistance with regard to the burial of the deceased. BUSCOR spokesperson, John Ngombe, says they will meet with representatives of various departments and business stakeholders to discuss their plans. He says they will also ensure that all the injured get assistance.
