Five injured following Durban fire

March 03, 2008, 06:30

Five people have been injured after jumping off a burning building on Mahatma Ghandi road in the Durban CBD.

Metropolice spokesperson Thomas Tyala says the injured jumped through windows when they heard a siren.

Tyala says the cause of the fire is not yet known and the extent of the damage has not yet been established.

Meanwhile, Firefighters have extinguished two separate fires which broke out around Cape Town in the early hours of this morning.

Authorities say at least four wood and iron structures and three cars were alight in Manenberg on the Cape Flats, while in the TR section of Khayelitsha, a large structure caught alight, leaving three people displaced. The causes of the fires have not been established.
