More troubles for Nationwide Airlines
|
February 27, 2008, 18:45
Yesterday a Nationwide aircraft carrying passengers from Johannesburg to Cape Town was forced to turn back mid-air halfway through the trip and performed an emergency landing at O R Tambo International Airport. This happened after one of its engines experienced problems and had to be shut down.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is now investigating the incident and says it's viewing the matter in a serious light following last year's grounding of the airline's entire fleet of 17 aircrafts. Ten have since been cleared to fly again.
Today Nationwide announced that it has been bought by a black economic empowerment outfit called African General Equity Group. The company is partly owned by ANC heavyweight Max Sisulu and President Thabo Mbeki's former economic adviser, Wiseman Nkuhlu.
