Eskom says it's electricity supply system is becoming more stable
|
February 21, 2008, 17:45
Eskom CEO Jacob Maroga says even though the electricity supply system is becoming more stable, South Africa still faces an emergency.
Maroga was addressing the media in Sunninghill, north of Johannesburg.
He says a significant portion of the industrial sector has heeded the call of a 10% reduction of electricity use. He says the commercial and residential sectors are harder to bring on board.
Maroga added that in order to efficiently generate electricity, they still need to buy 45 million tons of coal over the next two years. He says so far, they have secured over 30 million tons of coal and only South African suppliers will be used.
