Fire and Rescue Services in the South Peninsula say they have just about extinguished the fire at Kommetjie near Simon’s Town.
Two choppers have been used to water bomb the area. More than 150 fire fighters battled throughout the night to contain the raging fires. Eight fire engines are however still on standby to monitor any flare-ups.
Another fire that broke out a short while ago at Coronation in Oceanview is currently being brought under control.
Commanding officer Ronald Jacobs says the new fire is the work of arsonists, as the fire was started in a direction opposite to that of the wind.
