Residents of Tshwane have been urged to use electricity sparingly after lightning damaged a transformer at the Pulumani substation.
Spokesperson Console Tleane says the City is appealing to Pumulani, Montana, Hartebeesfontein, and Zeekoegat residents to use electricity sparingly.
"We are asking them to limit electricity consumption to an absolute minimum," said Tleane.
The substation was hit by lightning on Monday.
The Council was appealing to people to switch off their geysers during the 5pm to 8pm peak times.
"The City's Electricity division is currently busy with tests to determine the extent of the damage, in order to plan repair," said Tleane.
