South Africa's wine industry is set for a bumper season with exports already 14% up from last year. 'Wines of South Africa' spokesperson Andre Morgenthal says the current drought in Australia is counting in South Africa's favour.
Local producers have already exported over four million litres of wine to supply a shortfall. Morgenthal says the market is fairly balanced.
In the past year a global surplus of wine has slowed the industry down. Good rains over the past five months will have a positive impact on grapes currently on the vines. The wine industry is also gearing itself towards 2010 with projects around this in the pipeline.
