Seven people were injured when a car collided with an ambulance on the N14 near Randburg

August 19, 2007, 16:00

Seven people have been injured after a car collided with an ambulance on the N14 near Randburg. Netcare911 spokesperson Nick Dollman says the accident occurred on the N14 towards Pretoria before the Swartkoppies/Beyers Naude off-ramp late last night.

He says the driver of a red Volkswagen Jetta was travelling towards Krugersdorp when he lost control of the car. The car skidded across the highway, through the middle grassy island and spun before colliding with an ambulance that was travelling in the opposite direction.

"The driver of the car was in a very serious condition and his three passengers were all injured. Fire fighters had to use the Jaws-of-life to free them from the wreck," Dollman said.

Three paramedics in the ambulance were also injured and two were treated for head injuries. The three paramedics were taken to the Netcare Krugersdorp Private hospital and the four people from the car were taken to the Laratong hospital. - Sapa
