Cape Town disaster management is assisting people living in various informal settlements whose dwellings were flooded by this afternoon's heavy downpours.
Johan Minnie, the disaster management spokesperson, says they have set up soup kitchens and provided blankets to about 200 residents of Kosovo near Nyanga, Lotus River, Gugulethu, Phoenix in Manenberg and Doorenbach near Milnerton.
Minnie says the dwellings in these areas were built below the waterline. He says disaster management will be assessing the situation throughout the night.
