One of the declarations taken at the African Broadcasters' Conference which ended in Johannesburg last night was that the media should play a leading role in ensuring the success of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Over 30 broadcasters, from all over Africa participated at the conference. This was the first major project for the African Union Broadcasters (AUB). Delegates also urged the media, to continue helping governments, in the fight against the spread of HIV/Aids.
Broadcasters were also urged to support peace efforts, aimed at ending conflicts on the continent. They were also encouraged, to participate in the development of soccer, in Africa.
Now that the declaration has been endorsed, participants urged officials to expedite preparations for the biggest soccer spectacular in the world.
They have also been mandated, the conference, to deliver the contents of the declaration, to the heads of the state of African Union (AU). The African Union Broadcasters (AUB) says gatherings similar to this one, will be held annually, until the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
