Car plunges into lake, one drowns

March 16, 2007, 10:15

A man drowned and four people were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a lake, Johannesburg metro police said today.

Wayne Minnaar, the chief superintendent, said the driver of a silver Volkswagen Jetta lost control on Observatory road in Kensington at about 10pm yesterday.

He drove through a palisade fence and plunged into the lake in Bezuidenhout Park. "The man (28) got trapped inside the car and drowned."

The injured occupants, three men and a woman were taken to hospital. The driver, who survived, would be charged with culpable homicide, police said. - Sapa
