A 55-year-old woman has been killed by a hippopotamus at Nsavulani village outside Giyani in Limpopo. Zankosi Rikhotso, an eyewitness, says three women were fishing in the local river when the hippo attacked them. One was killed while the other two escaped unharmed.

Rikhotso says paramedics certified the woman dead upon their arrival at the scene.

Moatshe Ngoepe, the police spokesperson, says they are interacting with the conservation authorities regarding the hippo.
