Residents of Shoshanguve went on another rampage this morning. They are upset with what they say is a lack of service delivery. They blockaded roads with burning tyres and other objects. Motorists also came under attack, as they were pelted with stones.
A police officer was injured and seven people arrested. Schools in the eastern part of the township north of Tshwane were also disrupted as youths took part in the clashes. The situation is tense and police are keeping a close eye.
Meanwhile, residents of Delareyville in the North West province have formed a rate payers association to assist in service delivery. The residents are aggrieved by filth in the town, water shortages, bad roads, pit latrines, wrong billings and the pilling up of hazardous waste at a dumping site.
Charles Lolwane, the Tswaing local municipality mayor, has welcomed the development. "We take note of the concerns and we will attend to them ... we are happy also that they have established this forum,” he said.
