No lessons are expected yet at the North West University in Mafikeng this week. The institution has been shut following violent protests by students two weeks ago.
Eleven students have been served with suspension letters. They are part of a movement which protested against the decision by the management to hike fees by 13%. The university says the students contravened their code of conduct.
It says they will not be allowed on campus until all investigations are completed. South African Students Congress provincial spokesperson, Mosimanegape Moleme, has described the university management's allegations as untrue. The students will appeal against the suspension.
