Students to protest against police brutality

The University of Stellenbosch

Matie students will hold mass protests against police brutality today

March 14, 2008, 05:45

Students at the University of Stellenbosch will hold mass protests against police brutality today.

Police are accused of having used excessive force when they raided three pubs in the town last Friday. Among those who were allegedly assaulted were two tourists from Europe.

Petitions condemning the police behaviour were distributed on campus yesterday. Stellenbosch Mayor Loretta Maree and the Student Representative Council (SRC) are expected to address the students.
