Hundreds of learners in Khutsong have taken to the streets in protest against being registered for matric examinations under the North West government.
Trouble started when high school authorities handed out registration forms to grade 12 learners for this year's final examinations. Learners from other schools joined the protest and blockaded streets. There is a heavy police presence in the township.
Khutsong residents have, for the past two years, been protesting against their incorporation into North West, from Gauteng province.
The Merafong Demarcation Forum (MDF) has launched a series of weekly rallies aimed at keeping residents focused on the incorporation impasse.
The MDF has appealed to residents to be calm and disciplined while waiting for the Constitutional Court's decision on their case.
Forum not backing down
The MDF was asked not to attend the week-long sitting of the National Council of Provinces.
Forum leaders also told residents to ignore news reports that the ANC intended to review the cross-border issue.
MDF chair Lebona Mohale says they do not believe the ANC will help their cause, as a lot of empty promises have been made in the past.
