Talks to reopen NW University underway

Students protesting fee increases

A management meeting is underway at the Mafikeng campus

March 11, 2008, 12:00

A management meeting is underway at the Mafikeng campus of the North West University, to discuss the reopening of the institution which was closed at the weekend due to protests.

The students were protesting against the tuition fee hikes which were implemented this year. Though some students are still at the residences, there is no effective learning and teaching taking place.

Spokesperson for the university, Lester Mpolokeng, says management is discussing the way forward. The management is also evaluating the cost of the damages that were caused by the protesting students.
