Limpopo school security beefed up after shooting

March 08, 2008, 10:30

The Department of Education in Limpopo has pledged to provide grants to schools in the province to beef up security. This is after two learners were shot and killed at the Ralson Tshinanne High at Ngovhela village outside Thohoyandou yesterday.

Police say a security guard apparently accused the girl of having an affair with the 19 year old and shot both of them at the main gate of the school. The boy died at the scene while the girl died later in hospital.

Mangala says the department will provide the necessary resources to make schools safer: "We are ... saying security is a responsibility of our schools and as the department we do assist in terms of resources."

The suspect will appear in court on Monday on two charges of murder.
