Racist student video described as unforgivable
|
March 01, 2008, 19:00
The South African Student's Congress, Sasco, has called for the Education Minister Naledi Pandor and the management of the University of Free State (UFS)to be fired. The student movement accuses Pandor of refusing to listen to students.
This follows the racist events at the UFS this week where some students produced a video against integration at the residential areas. The video features black university employees on their knees eating food which had apparently been urinated upon by white students.
Sasco laid the blame squarely on Pandor's shoulders, saying it is her fault. They accuse Pandor of refusing to institute an inquiry into racism at universities, a recommendation they proposed in 2005. They have also called for the students concerned to be banned from any university in the country for a certain period, and to also face criminal prosecution.
Sasco president, David Maimela, has also called on all students, black and white, to join the solidarity march against racism at universities on March 6.
Meanwhile Pandor has urged the UFS to act firmly against makers of a racist video.
