Deadline passes for matric supp-exam registration

Matric students 2008

Deadline for matric supplementary exam registration has expired

February 02, 2008, 15:15

The deadline for matric supplementary exam registration has come and gone. But not all provinces are ready to start implementing a special programme, aimed at preparing learners to re-write the exams.

Close to 200 000 learners failed grade 12 last year. Curriculum changes make it impossible for those who've failed to go back to school. But with special tuition in all provinces, learners will get a second chance to write their exams in May.

Millions have been spent on support material and broadcast programmes. But Teacher union NAPTOSA says only a few districts in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga are prepared. In Gauteng, more than 20 000 learners failed. And although classes start next week, registration has been extended.
