The Mpumalanga Department of Education has cleared up its matric results mix-up, admitting it issued incomplete matric statements to certain learners declaring they had failed.
These learners had gathered from newspapers and other sources that they had passed. The province's Deputy Director of Education, Lucy Moyana says when the matric statements were printed the results of some subjects were still pending, due to alleged irregularities in the marking process.
She says the statements were printed without these subjects to meet a deadline set by the national Department of Education. Moyna says the incomplete matric statements were then sent to the learners' schools, suggesting they had failed.
