Blatter awarded honourary doctorate in SA

Sepp Blatter, the Fifa president

Blatter says SA hosting the World Cup provides a unique vehicle to improve Africans' quality of life

April 24, 2006, 17:00

Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president, was amongst some of the people who received honorary doctorates from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth today.

Blatter jetted in to Port Elizabeth to a warm welcome. He remained confident that South Africa would rise to the occasion and meet all the challenges leading up to the Soccer World Cup in 2010.

Although not his first honourary doctorate, Blatter said this one was special because it came from the Nelson Mandela Metro, which is also the home town of Danny Jordan, the South African Football Association (Safa) CEO.
