The Narcotics Unit has confiscated dagga valued at R60 million during an 11-day operation in Eastern Pondoland, in the Eastern Cape. Police say the raid took place in the Port St Johns, Lusikisiki and Libode areas.
Two stolen vehicles and a number of firearms were also recovered. Over 800 bags of dagga were found at a number of homesteads.
Mthetho Seyisi, a police spokesperson, says police used mounted policemen, a helicopter and motorbikes during the operation. However, he says, no arrests have been made because the suspects fled and it was difficult to pursue them in the rough terrain.
