May 17, 2008, 07:30
Police in the Western Cape have seized three and a half tons of dagga worth about R3.4 million at Beaufort West in three separate incidents this week.
Spokesperson, Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe says in all three cases, vehicles were stopped while heading for Cape Town. A 26-year-old man was arrested on the N-1 freeway following a tip-off. He was in possession of 240kg of dagga.
On Monday, more than two tons of dagga were found dumped on a cliff about 100m from the highway. In yet another incident on Thursday, police followed information received from the public and stopped a truck. Inside the vehicle, police found dagga weighing approximately a ton.
Three men are facing dagga possession charges in connection with the three incidents.
