Police have seized cocaine worth 15 million rand at Cape Town and O.R. Tambo International Airports and three people have been arrested.
Police spokesperson Dennis Adriao says one man was arrested at O.R.Tambo Airport on Saturday with 5.7 kilograms of cocaine in his possession. The cocaine had an estimated value of R5 million.
The man had arrived on a flight from Lisbon in Portugal. He was a South African citizen.He had hidden the cocaine in desktop pen holders and small lotion bottles.
He appeared before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court yesterday on charges of dealing in drugs and drug smuggling.
A 28-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were arrested at Cape Town International Airport yesterday in possession of 8 kilograms of cocaine valued at R10 million.
The pair had flown in from Buenos Aires in Argentina. Both were Durban residents and South African citizens. The two would appear before the Bellevue Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on charges of drug dealing and drug smuggling. – Additional reporting by Sapa
