Hijacked Soweto taxi recovered

The hijacked Soweto taxi was recovered in Tshwane

A Soweto taxi which was hijacked with 14 people inside was recovered in Tshwane last night, Johannesburg metro police said. Police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, said the taxi was hijacked around 6pm at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital Taxi Rank.

"Three hijackers took the taxi with all the passengers and the driver and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money." Minnaar said one of the passengers managed to make a call from a cellphone and informed a family member of their whereabouts.

"We (metro police) then contacted the Tshwane Metro Police and the taxi was recovered on DF Malan Drive," said Minnaar. He said nobody was hurt but all three hijackers got away. - Sapa
