The state will hear from its last witness today in the Najwa Petersen trial
|
May 12, 2008, 06:15
The State is expected to wrap up its case and call its last witness today in the trial of Najwa Petersen and the three men allegedly hired to kill her husband. Well known entertainer, Taliep Petersen, was shot and killed at his Athlone house in December 2006.
The four were arrested in June 2007 and have been in custody since. The defence will also be given a chance to present its case. Najwa Petersen is expected to take the stand.
Last week the court heard that the firearm which was used to kill Taliep has not yet been found. The pillow which one of the accused held over the weapon when Najwa Petersen allegedly fired the shot is also missing. In her statement to police, the widow stated twice that she had nothing to hide.
The State alleges that the widow contacted Fahiem Hendricks, who has now turned State witness, to find men to kill her husband. He then allegedly contacted accused number two, Abdoer Raasiet Emjedi. He in turn he recruited accused number three, Waheed Hassen and accused number four, Jefferson Snyders.
This morning Peter Schmitz, a crime mapping expert, is expected to testify.
