Taxis impounded from E Cape rank

May 09, 2008, 17:15

The Eastern Cape Law Enforcement Agency has impounded close to 80 taxis from the Highway taxi rank in Mdantsane. This follows the ongoing taxi violence at the Kuyasa taxi rank between members of the Ncedo Taxi Association.

Buffalo City spokesperson Benny Martin says they have impounded the taxis as they were operating illegally. Police will continue impounding taxis over the weekend.

This week the quarrel resulted in the death of Fezile Ntshona, the chairperson of the Ncedo Taxi Association, at the Kuyasa taxi rank. Police are still monitoring the situation.
