KwaZulu-Natal Premier S’bu Ndebele says he is outraged by the break-in that occurred at his Durban north home in the early hours of this morning.
A computer, a DVD set and some items of clothing were taken during the burglary. Ndebele's 21-year-old daughter and police guarding his home were at the house during the incident.
Ndebele says it is clear that there was a sinister motive behind the burglary.
“One has got a sense of outrage and a sense of being violated, because the main item that has been stolen from this house is a computer and then in the lounge they left a TV, they took just a DVD and a few other items of clothing.
“But the main item has been the computer and you wonder the type of audacity, because the police are here all the time. There is a guard house here of the police.”
Arrogant criminals
Ndebele also said that even though the premises were guarded by armed police, the robbers were "arrogant" in that they still forced their way into the house. He also believed that if the police guards had fired on the robbers, they would have returned fire.
"If you go to a house that is guarded, it shows they were prepared to kill," he added. The premier added that this was not the first time he had been a victim of crime. Ndebele called for a "Popular Front" against crime. He said every citizen should be committed to strengthening the fight against crime.
"And whoever buys this computer and DVD, they are an accessory to crime. People must contribute by not buying stolen goods," said Ndebele. Police are investigating. -Additional reporting by Sapa
