Ginwala commission continues Pikoli probe
|
May 08, 2008, 05:30
The commission of inquiry into the fitness of suspended National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss Vusi Pikoli to hold public office enters its second day with Pikoli's lawyers expected to continue cross examining Director General in the Presidency, Frank Chikane. Chikane yesterday rejected reports that Pikoli was suspended last September because he obtained a warrant of arrest for suspended Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi.
Chikane told the court that they were concerned over the search and seizures conducted at Tuynhuys and Union building - done by agents without security clearance. He says this jeopoardised the security of the state. Chikane is testifying for the state at the public hearings in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, other witnesses expected to take the stand include Deputy Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Arthur Fraser and Assistant Police Commissioner Flip Jacobs of the South African Police Services.
Pikoli was suspended by President Thabo Mbeki, following a break down of relations between him and Justice Minister Bridgette Mabandla.
