The sister of the slain Cape Town playwright, Taliep Petersen, has told the Cape High Court that when his wife, Najwa, stabbed him in April 2006, she said if she could not have him, nobody else would.
Tagmeeda Johnson is testifying in the murder trial of the widow and three men who Najwa allegedly hired to have her husband killed.
Presiding Judge Siraj Desai has ruled that Johnson's evidence, which is mostly hearsay, is admissible. He has, though, restricted her in terms of only relaying to the court what her brother had told her. Johnson, who was her brother's confidante, has described him as a very private, humble and spiritual person. She says her brother told her that he wanted to divorce his wife, and buy a house for him and his children.
The State is expected to cross-examine Johnson today.
