Two people have been arrested during a police raid by members of the National Investigative Unit in the Mzamba area in Bizana in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson Lungisile Mathidane says a 45 year-old man from Sea View locality was nabbed for being in possession of six envelopes containing dagga weighing about 3.5kg. Mathidane says the dagga has an estimated street value of R3 500.
In another incident, a 27-year old man was arrested for being in possession of five cartridges of a R5 rifle and a bullet of a 9mm pistol. Mathidane says the two suspects are expected to appear in the Bizana Magistrate's Court tomorrow, where they will be formally charged.
In other reports, Ngqeleni police in the Eastern Cape have arrested three female suspects found in possession of dagga. The three - two teenagers aged 13 and 15, and a 39-year-old woman - are from Nomadolo village and were at their home when police came to arrest their mother whom they suspected of dealing in dagga.
Police spokesperson Deneo Koena says the trio gave police wrong information about their mother's whereabouts, something that forced police to arrest them. Koena says police recovered dagga weighing 6.7kg and dagga plants. She says the estimated street value of the dagga is R9 000.
Their father - who is critically ill - was not arrested because of his condition. Koena says police are still looking for the mother. The trio is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
