The NPA will forge ahead with its prosecution against Zuma
|
April 18, 2008, 17:15
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will go ahead with its corruption trial against ANC President Jacob Zuma, irrespective of Zuma's Mauritian legal battle.
The Mauritian Attorney General, Rama Valayden, today formally opposed Zuma's court application seeking permission to prevent the NPA from accessing original evidence that could be used against him. The matter has been postponed until May 7.
Zuma's legal team in Port Louis is accusing the NPA, via the Attorney General, of delaying tactics. Zuma's lawyer has blamed the NPA for delays in the Mauritian court case. Zuma's lawyer in the Mauritian Supreme Court, Shakeel Mohammed, says the ball has been in the Attorney General and the NPA's court for some time now.
However, Zuma's lawyer Ayesha Jeewa has told SABC News that the case has been postponed because the defence team wants to study the affidavit filed by Valayden.
