Police in KwaZulu-Natal have swiftly re-arrested five dangerous awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Ulundi police station yesterday. It is believed that they cut their way out of the holding cell using a hack-saw.
Police say they are facing charges ranging from murder and robbery to theft.
Spokesperson Phindile Radebe says: "Immediately after the escape a team was set up to investigate. Within 24 hours they were able to arrest all five suspects. Three of them were arrested for murder -- they were expected to appear in court on the 25th of August.
Radebe says the suspects were still in Ulundi when they were re-arrested last night, “it's believed that three of them were on their way to Gauteng.”
She says they are expected to appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrate court to face charges for escaping from custody.
