Taxi owner killed in Limpopo

March 15, 2008, 21:15

Limpopo police have opened a case of murder following the death of a taxi owner in Ntata Village in Bolo-belo, outside Tzaneen. Police Spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says Michael Malatji was shot and killed on arrival at his home.

Limpopo Transport MEC Justice Pitso says Malatji was killed just after he and other taxi operators had a meeting with him to discuss challenges in the taxi industry.

"To us as government ... as the department this is a shock because we had a meeting with all leaders of taxi associations in the province yesterday with an effort to make sure that we exchange in a manner that we can resolve problems that are facing the taxi industry around route conflict ... around allocation of permits. We convey a message of condolence to the family, the taxi council of Limpopo and Mopane."
