Port Elizabeth police have arrested a man, believed to be a Samwu member, in connection with the assault of volunteers hired by the municipality.
It is alleged that the suspect and his accomplices attacked three volunteers. Gun shots were also fired at the scene. This as the two-week-long Samwu strike continues in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Earlier in the week, five houses belonging to non-striking workers were damaged. Police spokesperson Sandra Jansen van Rensburg says the suspect has been charged with assault and attempted murder.
