Three weeks have passed, and there is still no arrest in the now infamous 'miniskirt row'. Nwabisa Ngcukana, 25, was allegedly attacked by a group of taxi drivers and street hawkers, who said she was indecently dressed. Numerous people witnessed the incident.
Ngcukana says she can assist the police in finding her attackers. She says if she were to see any one of her attackers, she would be able to identify them.
Gauteng Safety MEC Firoz Cachalia recently raised the question of why no one has been arrested yet.
The investigators say that a breakthrough is imminent. "The investigation has reached a very sensitive stage where we can't divulge the sensitive info to the public, but we will be making an arrest soon," says police spokesperson Xoli Mbhele.
Meanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) internal task team has failed to submit a report on the incident. It was to be submitted to the Commission for Gender Equality by the end of today.
The commission says it will write a letter to Santaco, and if need be, use its powers to seize documents from its offices.
