Judgment has been reserved in Zuma's Constitutional Court bid
|
March 13, 2008, 13:15
Judgment has been reserved in ANC President Jacob Zuma's Constitutional Court bid to have search and seizure raids as well as a letter requesting documents from Mauritius ruled invalid. Lawyers for Zuma and French arms manufacturer, Thint, wrapped up their arguments before the eleven judges, while the NPA completed their submissions before lunch. Zuma did not attend the extra day of court today.
Earlier the NPA's advocate, Wim Trengove, told the Constitutional Court that Zuma and Thint have no legal standing regarding Mauritian documents. Zuma and Thint approached the Court in a bid to have a letter requesting the documents for the NPA, declared invalid.
But the NPA is arguing that the Appeals Court was correct in its earlier finding that they don't have standing. Zuma's lawyer earlier argued that allowing the NPA to get the documents in question, would negate their ability to challenge the evidence in the documents.
It is not clear at this stage when judgment in the applications for leave to appeal will be handed down.
