The man believed to be behind a hoax email conspiracy in the ANC, Muziwendoda Kunene, has pleaded guilty in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court to a charge of contravening sections of the Intelligence Oversight Act. This comes after Kunene entered into a plea agreement with the State.
Kunene admitted that he refused to answer questions put to him by the Inspector General of Intelligence, Zolile Ngcakane. The court subsequently sentenced him to three months imprisonment, suspended for three years.
Kunene remains in custody as he is also a suspect in the murder of an estate agent in the Free State. Kunene is also facing a charge of fraud in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court together with former spy boss, Billy Masetlha, and former National Intelligence Authority (NIA) manager of Electronic Surveillance, Funokwakhe Madlala.
