Johan Nel in court last month
|
March 13, 2008, 10:45
The North West youth accused of killing four people and wounding nine others at Swartruggens two months ago is scheduled to appear at the local court today. Last month the court granted 18-year-old Johan Nel permission to be sent for psychiatric observation.
Nel's defence team appealed for him to be observed by trained psychiatric personnel at Weskoppies hospital in Pretoria. Hundreds of residents from the Skielik informal settlement and nearby villages are expected to converge at the Swartruggens Magistrate Court amid a high police presence.
Nel is accused of killing four people and wounding six others in the Skielik informal settlement near Swartruggens on January 14. The killings were not only condemned, but also described as a racist attack on the black community of Skielik.
